Jackets Fall to BC in Series Opener

BRIGHTON, Mass. – Georgia Tech baseball was held to just two runs on seven hits as it dropped the 9-2 decision to Boston College on Friday night at the Harrington Athletics Village.

The No. 17 Yellow Jackets (22-12, 9-7 ACC) were unable to overcome a hot-hitting day for the Eagles (18-17, 7-9 ACC), who amassed 14 hits total. Two key defensive errors also led to three unearned runs on the night.

On the mound, Xzavion Curry (4-1) received his first decision loss on the season after allowing four earned runs on 11 hits, while striking out four. BC’s Dan Metzdorf (4-2) gave the Eagles a quality start, allowing just two runs on four hits in 6.2 innings of work.

Austin Wilhite and Baron Radcliff led the way offensively with two hits apiece. Radcliff finished with an RBI and Wilhite launched a double to start the game. Colin Hall also finished with an RBI on a fielder’s choice. The Eagles had four multi-hit performances on the night with Cody Morissette and Jake Alu hitting three apiece. Morissette also had three RBI.

The Yellow Jackets will return to Harrington Village on Saturday, April 13 when it looks to even the series. First pitch is set for 2 p.m. and is broadcast live on WREK 91.1 FM.

Postgame Notes:

  • Georgia Tech used three relief pitchers on the night – Jake Lee, Jake Brace and Robert Winborne – with Lee (1.0 IP, 0 H, 3 K) and Winborne (1.0 IP, 1 H, 0 R, 1 K) being the most effective.
  • Also getting hits on the night for Tech were Kyle McCann, Tristin English and Colin Hall.
